India Expectations

Well, I've finally started updating again. Of course, I only put in titles for the rest of my Chile posts, but that's something right? So, my expectations of india were way off from the reality, at least in scope. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Before I came I was expecting India to be what everyone told me it was. Hot, smelly, really really crowded, dirty, with crazy driving, and a high contrast of poor to rich. In reality, what that meant in my head was, kind of like really bad areas of new york city, only transplanted into a cornfield with lots of cows. I suppose you simply can't prepare yourself for an experience when you literally have no prior possible comparison. I don't know what I expected of the hospital or the program, but I suppose I expected thing to be run like they are in the U.S. because I'm volunteering through a U.S. company. This means organization, fair play, and support among other things. I expected the hospital to be a dirty terrible place where I would probably catch Dengue fever before I got home. I expected myself to get very sick, and to lose tons of weight and buy pretty indian clothes and be known around the village as 'that white girl who works at the hospital'. I think that sums up my expectations, and if you tune in for more updates, you'll find out what my reality happened to be. That's all for now!
